Joe Moore & Company is proud to fly the American Flag in honor of its founder

Joseph L. Moore, Sr.

The flag was raised on the thirteenth day of July, two thousand nine.
Joe Moore was born in Portsmouth, VA. As a teenager, he played football for Woodrow Wilson High School, worked for George W. McLean Concrete Company, and delivered newspapers. He went to Elon College on a football scholarship in 1938-39. During WWII, Moore worked in the Norfolk Naval Shipyards as a machinist. Afterwards, he took a job as a refractory salesman for A. Lynn Thomas' Norfolk branch. In 1947, he was promoted to start the A. Lynn Thomas Raleigh branch office. He later founded Joe Moore & Company in 1957 as a refractory installation and sales company. In 1980, he expanded the company into boiler tube and pressure vessel repairs. He remained active in the day to day operations of the company until he passed away in 1990.
